Would still stay away from ruthless until you have a greater understanding of the value/rarity of certain items. Maybe I'm just bad at video games, but I'm like 2.5k hours in and still learning new stuff all the time.
Ruthless will have absolutely zero effect on the core game because they're designing the core game first and then adding Ruthless on top. So I'm expecting zero actual changes on that front to happen to the core game, and if there are big changes, they will have nothing to do with Ruthless being added and would have come anyway.
Overall I think ruthless is better for new players even tho there are minimum items / rarity drops. But as a newcomer you still don't use trade and the item drops when you farm for a bit is quite okay in Ruthless I play HC SSF Ruthless and I can't imagine switching to regular play because the progress is much more fun with more entertaining
